Artist's Comments: Watercolours and Acrylics

Lori Shook is a self-taught artist. She first picked up a paintbrush several years ago when she signed up for a decorative, pen and wash (acrylic) course she took to relieve the every day stresses of being a full-time working wife and mother. After that one class, she was infatuated with the art of painting and determined to learn all she could about the craft. Experimentation and her love of colour soon led her to watercolours. Her love of life and nature have always been her inspiration.

Lori’s work was accepted into several juried shows, and can be seen each year at the Maple Ridge Art Studio Tour, Maple Ridge Art in the Park, and White Rock’s Mikelson Festival of Arts.

Lori’s paintings range from playful to contemporary, and from bold to serene. She paints with watercolour, acrylic, ink, or a combination of all three. Nature, children at play, and cats are her favourite subjects with colour being the key to her work.

Lori was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, but has lived in or visited all of the provinces of Canada. She has resided in British Columbia for over 20 years. She now lives in Coquitlam with her husband, her two young sons, and her cat, all of whom encourage and inspire her in her creative endeavours.
