Artist’s Statement:
I began my artistic journey by painting landscapes in oils, switching a few years later to painting large flowers in watercolours. At first, my work was realistic, but as time went by, I found that I wanted my work NOT to be like a photograph. Slowly but surely, I found myself working less and less realistically, and turning instead to the abstract.

Once I gave up on realism and started to work abstractly, I found myself exploring different forms of abstraction. Organic shapes, geometric shapes, collages, textures, all were fair game. The whole process was very freeing. I was able to just let my imagination and creativity run free. What a liberating experience that has been.

For me, painting has been a journey of self discovery, of testing skills and limits, of defining who I am.

Biography:
Suzette has been painting for over 15 years. Following a course of self-directed studies, she obtained her training through classes, workshops and selected readings. She continues along this course still, to further improve her skills and stay abreast of current trends in art today.

As an active member of the local art community, Suzette has served as treasurer of the Maple Ridge Art Gallery and as treasurer and then president of the Garibaldi Art Club. She has also served as co-ordinator of the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Art Studio Tour.

Suzette’s work has been accepted into numerous juried exhibitions and she has won several awards. She has exhibited in many group shows and in a wide variety of venues. Suzette also sells her work on the internet through her website. Her work can be found in private collections throughout Canada and the United States.
